Through the mining engineering graduate program, students acquire an advanced understanding of mining processes and applications; the knowledge to design and select equipment for specific operations; and the expertise to use cutting-edge engineering methods to solve mining-related challenges in an economical, safe and efficient way. 

The special skills and knowledge that graduating students will acquire include the following:

  • An advanced understanding of characteristics of selected mining processes and their mutual relationships
  • An ability to design selected mining processes, as well as select the relevant equipment as determined by the specifics of the operation
  • An ability to use cutting edge engineering tools and knowledge to solve mining related problems in an economical, safe and efficient way.

A total of 30 credit hours is required to complete the degree, which includes a limited research component.

DELIVERY FORMAT: Missouri S&T's unique approach to delivering distance education is designed for working professionals. Various delivery methods maintain student-to-faculty interaction and enhance your learning experience, which includes the use of collaborative software and access to archived classes. Canvas is the learning management system for the campus.



Admissions & Requirements

To be accepted to this program, you must have:

  1. A bachelor’s degree in physical science or engineering.
  2. GPA ≥ 2.75, or bachelor’s degree in another subject, along with work experience in mining, may be substituted, if approved.
  3. GRE Scores: Q ≥ 148 and GRE AW ≥ 3.5. Candidates may choose to enter through the Mining Engineering Graduate Certificate Program first, which does not require a GRE.
  4. International Requirements: TOEFL Score of ≥ 88 (iBT).
  5. Unofficial transcripts are sufficient for an admit decision. Missouri S&T will require official transcripts from all schools attended before a student may register for a second semester at S&T. In order for a transcript to be counted as official, it must be sent directly from the school to Missouri S&T.
  6. This program requires a Statement of Purpose (brief summary of applicant's background and specific areas of research interest); and 3 Letters of Recommendation. You will be asked to upload or provide this information during the online application process.
NOTE: Individuals residing in MA are not able to enroll in this program.
