The online masters degree in elementary education from MU is designed to support new elementary school teachers in the early stages of their career. With a classroom-focused approach, bridging research and practice with relevant course work and mentorship, this program prepares early-career teachers for success.

Program structure and topics

The online masters in elementary education is 100 percent online: no campus visits are required.

Students take four to eight credit hours each semester session and finish the program in two years.

Admissions & Requirements

To be accepted to this program, you must have:

  1. A bachelor's degree

  2. 3.0 GPA or above on a 4.0 scale
  3. A written personal statement

    Statement of purpose describing your academic and career background and goals.

  4. 2 letters of recommendation

    Two letters of recommendation from two people who are well-acquainted with your academic experience and can attest to your intellectual, experiential and interpersonal abilities. At least one of these letters must come from a professor or other academic official. You will supply only the names and contact details of your references; Graduate Studies will instruct them on how to upload their letters to your application.

  5. Official/Unofficial transcripts from all previous schools
  6. Completion of an accredited teacher education program and baccalaureate degree by May.
  7. Eligible to be recommended for certification in the state of Missouri by June (only for MO residents).
  8. If English is not your native language, please submit a TOEFL score of at least 80 (internet-based test) or an IELTS score of at least 6.5.
  9. Missouri Content Assessment scores, Praxis Exam Certification Score Report or comparable teacher certification exam scores for the state you live in.
  10. Résumé or CV.
