This certificate program is part of the Great Plains AG IDEA consortium of 19 universities. Students apply to and are admitted by one university, enroll in all of their courses through that university and graduate from that university. However, the online courses are taught by faculty in the discipline from several universities.

Admissions & Requirements

To be accepted to this program, you must have:

  1. Completed baccalaureate in chemistry and biology or food science from a regionally accredited institution.
  2. Minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 hours of undergraduate education.
  3. If English is not your native language, please submit a TOEFL score of at least 80 (internet-based test) or an IELTS score of at least 6.5.
  4. Transcripts of all previous college or university education. Upload unofficial transcripts in your online application. If you are accepted, you will be asked to provide official transcripts.
  5. GRE scores (optional).
  6. At least two letters of recommendation. In the online application, you will need to supply names and contact details of two or more people who can attest to your professional competence, academic preparation and potential for graduate work. One should be a college or university professor who can discuss your academic abilities, and one should be an administrator or colleague who can describe authoritatively your professional experience and potential. Graduate Studies will contact your references with instructions regarding the letters.

Includes dominant flora, public health significance, characterization of organisms, examination of foods representative of major food groups, spoilage, preservation, food fermentations and physiological groups.
