An online graduate certificate in organizational consulting and change from MU can help you gain a deeper understanding of the challenges of people and organizations, particularly in the public and nonprofit sectors. If you want to learn models for conflict resolution, strategic planning, executive coaching, team building and organizational diagnosis and assessment, this may be the certificate for you.

Nine-week courses

Courses are offered in a 9-week format, allowing you to finish in one year. The program:

  • Emphasizes the dynamic and non-linear nature of change 
  • Explores in depth the role of a change agent 
  • Focuses on multiple levels of analyses of change 
  • Gives you the opportunity to analyze organizations and communities in the field or through case studies 
  • Stresses the action-research and psychodynamic orientation of change

This certificate is designed for practicing or aspiring organizational researchers, consultants and students of organizational psychology. You may earn credit hours as a stand-alone credential or earn the certificate concurrently with the online master of public affairs.

Admissions & Requirements

To be accepted to this program, you must have:

  1. Completed bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  2. Minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 hours of undergraduate education.
  3. If English is not your native language, please submit a TOEFL score of at least 80 (internet-based test) or an IELTS score of at least 6.5.
  4. Transcripts of all previous college or university education. Upload unofficial transcripts in your online application. If you are accepted, you will be asked to provide official transcripts.
  5. Résumé.
  6. A statement of interest (1-2 paragraphs) explaining why you wish to pursue a graduate certificate from the Truman School of Public Affairs.

    Focuses on understanding human action in administrative situations and on developing personal capacities for effective action in varied and difficult organizational situations. Graded on A-F basis only.

    Focuses on the study of group psychology in the context of communities and organizations. It provides a specific examination of the emergence and resolution of conflict. Graded on A-F basis only.

  • PUB AF 8620Organizational Analysis and Change3 Credits

    Investigates processes and methodologies of organizational diagnosis, intervention strategies, and the role of a change agent. Graded on A-F basis.

  • PUB AF 8630Organizational Change in a Community and Global Context3 Credits

    Examines changing organizations in their task environments, which include communities and the global economy. The phenomenon of ambiguous boundaries between public and private as well as nonprofit sectors will be investigated as these profound changes impact organizational behavior. Graded on A-F basis only.
